The Proposal

The proposal was truly perfect. We went up to the cabin for Fourth of July weekend, a normal thing to do for the holiday. This year was a bit different because we invited my parents to join us. Also, Cody's dad told everyone to bring a nice outfit because we were going to take family pictures at sunset. So we went throughout the day Saturday, hanging out on the lake and playing games. Then the time came for everyone to get ready. So we all got into our nice outfits (which took awhile) then everyone was hanging out outside waiting and Cody came up to me and said "We have a little bit longer to wait until sunset, do you want to go on a golf cart ride, just the two of us?". So I agreed and we hopped in the golf cart and took a ride up the road to The Eagle. Then on our way back, the wind blew all the dust from the road into the golf cart getting dust in our eyes and all over our clothes (mind you I am wearing white).

Once we got back to the cabin (and dusted ourselves off) I looked around and saw no one outside. So I asked Cody "Where did everyone go? They were all outside when we left?". And he said "Oh I don't know", and he took my hand and led me through the backyard to the edge of the lake. He then asked, "Where should we take these pictures?". By this time everyone all day had been asking me, where do you think a good place to take picures would be? So I was starting to get a bit frustrated and I replied "I don't know, you could do it here or here", and as I turned back to look at him, he had reached down into the rocks to grab the ring box and he knelt down on one knee and he asked me to marry him! And I of course said YES! It was amazing, the cabin is a special place to us since we have been going up there with Cody's family for years so it was the perfect place to start the rest of our lives together.

How We Met

We first met in sixth grade at Memorial Middle School. We were on the same sixth grade "team", the Rangers, as well as in the same homeroom. Carissa was involved in dance, cheer, band, choir, orchestra, and Images (show choir). Cody was involved in track and field, football, and yearbook. Even though we first met in sixth grade, we didn't really start to notice one another until seventh grade. Carissa danced in the school talent show while Cody watched from the audience thinking to himself "That girl is hot!".

For the next couple years we got to know each other through church events and camps as well as at cheer and dance competitions (Cody went to competitions to watch his sisters cheer). Then in eighth grade typing class we had to practice making a Power Point, so Cody made his about his family's cabin. Carissa watched his presentation and said "Omg, you have a cabin? I would love to go sometime". So Cody didn't hesitate and asked Carissa to come to an opening weekend of the cabin. It was a cold spring weekend (definitely no jet skiing) but we still made the best of it and had a lot of fun! After that, the rest was history. We started dating a couple weeks before ninth grade and we have been together ever since.
